Dear Friends of TCAN;

Thank you Latest News Latest links

Hundreds of people in Uganda greatly appreciate the support you have given to TCAN.  They have received help with education and medical care.  A few have received help with solar cookers.  All have received spiritual and emotional encouragement.  I spent nearly two months there this summer administering our various programs.

We sponsor over 130 children and have taken two medical teams there.  The teams have treated over 4000 patients.  In October the third team will be going for nine days of clinics.  About two thousand patients will be seen for dental and general medical care.  Ruth and I will be there to welcome the team.

Sponsors needed now

Our needs are many and we need your partnership in giving and in prayer.
To the left is Charles Lwanga Naku, our Ugandan Social Worker with John.  John has an infected abscessed tooth that had been untreated causing his upper left teeth to fall out and creating a hole in the roof of his mouth.  He was suffering greatly.  We took him to the national referral hospital in Kampala for treatment.  He is receiving antibiotics that hopefully will arrest the infection.  Restorative surgery may then be possible.  The infection has stunted his growth and kept him out of school.  He was barely able to eat anything. We are following 10 children with special medical needs now.
Community Nursery School

TCAN operates a nursery school for 70 four and five year olds in Muwafu village.   We need funds for supplies, furnishings, and ongoing expenses.  A kitchen is needed urgently at a cost of $300.00.

The Nursery School is finishing its second year.  This summer we were able to build a small kitchen which is just a small building to cook in.  Previously the teachers were cooking the children’s porridge outdoors.  We give the children a cup of porridge daily.  We needs funds to pay the teachers and buy supplies.

Medical Missions

Fourteen team members, including five nurses, traveled to Uganda to hold clinics in rural villages in September, 2007.   Another team of seven members went there in June, 2008.  Each team provided  free direct treatment, and referral to over 2000 villagers.  The locals report that several lives were saved by our efforts.

The next mission will be October 9-25, 2008.

Doctors, Nurses, Dentists, other medical personnel, and helpers of all sorts are needed.  Cost will be about $2500 each depending on seasonal air fare rates.
The volunteers will enjoy the beauty of Uganda, the gracious hospitality of its people, and experience its culture.  They will bring the love of Jesus to the poor and sick while treating hundreds of patients.
Clinic will be held where medical services are scarce.  The medical professionals will treat all manners of diseases and wounds.  Referrals will be made and facilitated to Ugandan medical facilities.  We work in cooperation with the local medical personnel.

Current needs include:

  • Sponsors for children.  Many are in need of help with school and medical expenses.  Contact us for an available child.
  • Travel expenses for Don and Ruth.  Each trip costs over $2500.00 for each of us.   Two trips this year will add up to over $10,000.  You can help us with that.
  • Funds to purchase medicine for free distribution during the nine days of clinics.  We need about $2000 for the October team.
  • Salaries and office expenses for Uganda staff.  Currently  we have one Social Worker employed and need to add office staff.  We need about $1000 each month.
  • Funds to complete a small house for our resident nurse.  $3000 is needed.
  • General operating expenses such as paper, postage, telephone and computer expenses.
  • Office space and staff for our Altoona TCAN office.  The work is beginning to exceed what Ruth and I and a few other volunteers can handle.
  • Computers, printers, and other office equipment for Altoona and Uganda.

We hope that you will be able to help in some way.  Your donations are tax deductible

Thanks for your continued support.

Don and Ruth Newville
