Edward and Peace pastor a church in Kabale, Uganda, near the border with Rwanda.  When we first came to Uganda in 1994, Edward worked for us.  We helped him start a chicken raising business and this enabled him to complete Bible School.  Later I presided at their marriage ceremony.  They have now started an organizaton, VICTORY COMMUNITY CARES, to help villagers with gardening and other projects.  TCAN contributed $300.00 to help with their projects and we hope to help them further in the future.  We consider Edward to be our African son.

Executive Overview:

The African continent, Uganda in particular is characterized by spiritual and social-economic problems such as wars, poverty, diseases, witchcraft, devil worship, ancestral worship, human sacrifice, child abuse, street children, and orphans. These problems have caused untold suffering to God’s people. As a result, the affected experience rejection, bitterness, hopelessness, and depression.

Because of the status quo the following questions arise; Can the vicious cycle of poverty, apathy, corruption, disease and moral degeneration be broken? Is the Bible relevant on holistic transformation and developmental issues in our community? Can Biblical principles provide lasting solutions to these problems? Is there hope for the transformation and development of our communities? Does the Church or Christians in our communities today have any part to play in directing the course that the communities should take at this time?

Victory Community Care Services as a caring hand of Churches in Kabale has a mandate to answer such questions and find solutions by providing Christ centred services to the community. As the disciples of our Savior Jesus Christ we have to follow His strategic plan of setting man’s soul free from the powers of darkness as it is laid in Luke 4: 18.

Vision Statement:

The vision of the organization is to see that above all things, the people residing in the communities of southwestern Uganda may prosper and be in health, even as their soul prospers.

Mission Statement:

Our Mission statement is to meet the needs of the whole person, in the communities of Kabale District, using integrated programs and services, to work as a team in planning, mobilizing resources, and developing programmes that will bring socio- economic and spiritual transformation in the community, empowering people to stand on their own to fight diseases, poverty and other social evils in the community. This is done without prejudice or favour, giving respect and dignity to all participants.

The Aims and Goals pursued by Victory Community Care Services are:

To help the economically and socially disadvantaged in our community by:

  • Introducing projects which enhance self-reliance and empower people to find solutions to the prevailing social economic problems faced individually and collectively as a community.
  • Provide skills and knowledge that will give assistance to communities whilst at the same time offering and providing spiritual guidance and counseling where appropriate.
  • To help with medium or long term solutions to the causes of poverty, diseases and ignorance.
  • Providing educational opportunities to the disadvantaged children and the adults, and providing basic life-sustaining needs to the most severely disadvantaged in the community where possible.

MOTTO:

Building Stronger Communities through Faith, Innovations and Compassionate Services.

Objectives of Victory Community Care Ministry:

  • To share the love of Jesus Christ in holistically so that many in the community may know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
  • Train and make disciples to share the love of God with the community and make disciples in other communities in order to meet spiritual, and social - economical needs.
  • Teaching the Biblical principles to the communities so that the Christians live a life of holiness in their daily work or businesses.
  • To empower the people in the community with knowledge and skills so that they can utilize God given resources to reduce poverty, ignorance, combat escalating dependence syndrome on foreign donations.
  • To develop programs, mobilize resources that will meet the spiritual and social- economical needs of our community.
  • To work with other organizations that is aiming at improving the social- economical welfare of the people of Uganda and Kabale in particular.
  • Fostering to change the social-traditional beliefs and practices that have caused the people of this community to lag behind. Beliefs like dependence syndrome on foreign donations, looking at women as “burden bearers” girls as a source of wealth, among others.

Why only the church can effectively deal with the community’s problems:

(a) It is because the church can offer the Gospel.

The truest need of every community is the gospel and the poor and the needy need the Gospel. The Gospel provides hope to an otherwise hopeless group of people and answers the most asked questions about our purpose for living. The Gospel offers a new life in Jesus Christ to a people who desperately need a change.

(b) Because the scriptures commends the church to do so.

By meeting the needs of the community the church is obeying Her master and founder Jesus Christ when he said (Matt: 25: 34-46): "Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, come ye blessed of my father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world; for I was hungred, and ye give meat ……"  We are seeing great need in this community and God’s people are in desperate need. We therefore as a ministry, are compelled to help and teach people how they may apply Gods principles to their daily life so that they can prosper in all things (spiritual, socially and economically so that a local Church can support the advancement of the gospel. A church can’ not stand and live on donations for generations she must wake up and do some to her congregation and her Community.

(c) Because the liberation of man from spiritual darkness has many pulls around it.

Therefore every answered need is a step towards knowing the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. The person, whose needs have been catered for through wholistic evangelism, sees God’s love in real action. By meeting the needs of a community the church becomes a more meaningful instrument of Gods’ love to his people.

(d) Because the church is an instrument that should bring the love of Christ to the community.

When the Church shows Jesus’ love to the community, people will easily understand and come to believe in Christ because they are attended to, to their problems. God is seen in action through the services they get from the church.

Because Jesus entrusted his mission to the disciples and today the church, its her responsible to carry out this strategy, through evangelism. By evangelizing, the church effects the plan of liberating man from spiritual and physical bondage.

(f) Because the church is a home for the family of God, as a school for training, educating and developing the children of God, a work-shop for equipping trainers, a restaurant for refreshing and rehabilitating the weary and needy.

A hospital for caring of spiritual affirms an army mobilizing workers for the continued massive slaughter of the seats of Satan in the hearts and lives of people since they are inseparable. Every aspect needs special attention because if one is neglected it affects the development or transformation of others. Through wholistic evangelism the church brings the love of God much closer to people and they come to trust Him, grow and become a strong family.
